Partnerships’ Variety Garners Success in the Bucking Stock Industry #1
Jerome Davis of Davis Rodeo Ranch has developed a new twist to his partnership program. He understands the investment his partners make and he has come up with a way of adding something special to the process of bull selection.
“The partners that I have love the sport of bull riding and they love bucking bulls,” Davis told us about the type of people who buy his partnerships. “They might not have a big enough place or they might not want the hassle of having a bull breaking through the fence or bulls fighting each other. They can own the bull and let us do all the work.”
“I wanted to give the people buying partnerships something outside the box,” cotinued Davis of the draft he developed. “I wanted it to be a fun experience, one that the investors would enjoy. So I developed an idea for an event that I got from Beau Mills.”
Beau Mills is a retired MLB player who, like many other celebrity athletes, has joined the growing number of people enjoying bucking bull ownership through partnership. One of the more noticeable sports figures to enter the bucking bull game through partnership was Jared Allen. Allen joined forces with Matt Sharping to create the Jared Allen Bull Team that included the great PBR fan favorite bull Air Time.
The new twist to Davis’ partnership program begins with the selection of a draft number. Davis selects 12 unbucked calves and puts them in a draft pool. Draft spots are priced according to selection order with the first draft spot selling for the highest amount and the 12th draft spot selling for the lowest.
For the actual pick of the calves, Davis has a selection day at the Davis Ranch complete with bull draft and barbeque.
“On the day of the draft, the calves are bucked in front of the 12 people who have bought draft numbers,” explained Davis of the process. “Then we have a barbeque and after that we start the draft. The number one draft spot gets the first pick and so on.”

Partnerships with Davis Rodeo Ranch include bull training and hauling to all events. Vet bills are split 50/50 and there is a monthly fee for feed. Entry fees to events are paid by the partner and winnings are split evenly.
“Partners can see their bulls any time and they can choose not to enter an event,” Davis said. “But I hold the right to enter the bull in any competition the partner chooses not to. In that case, I pay the entire entry fee and keep the full winnings.”
Partnership in a bull can be sold at any time, with the partner receiving 50 percent of the price of the sale. Davis Rodeo will continue to train and haul bulls up through the age levels of competition until the partner no longer wants to keep the bull.
“I have partners who bought their bulls as calves and I’ve hauled them to competitions all the way up through to the PBR. It’s all up to the partner how long they keep the bull.”
Jerome Davis and his wife Tiffany have built the Davis Rodeo Ranch into one of the most highly respected bucking bull programs in the industry. They are known for their success at raising and training bucking bulls for top tier competition at all levels from ABBI futurities all the way up to the Unleash the Beast PBR tour. Their bull Super Freak was the 2008 ABBI American Heritage winner. Davis Ranch Rodeo hosts the PBR Boot Barn Jerome Davis Invitational annually as well as futurities and derbies.

Great editorial effort that’s much appreciated on my end as I’m well assured it is on multiple levels.
I’m hoping this can/will add me to the subscriber list. (;-)
