Bucking Bull 6308 Logun’s Legacy Carries the Spirit of 2 Special Cowboys – Logun Gulden and Mikel Moreno – to the WNFR

by Terry Lidral

There’s a special meaning behind the name given to 6308 Logun’s Legacy and he carries the memories of 2 special young men in the sport of bull riding, Logun Gulden and Mikel Moreno.  Having the Rosser family bull in the 2023 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is especially meaningful to Cindy Rosser, whose son Mikel put together the genetics for Logun’s Legacy’s sire, Mikel’s Kat.

“I named that bull for bull rider Logun Gulden who lost his life in a motorcycle accident in June 2020,” Rosser said of the young man who rode Logun’s Legacy as a 3-year-old.  “We had some bull riders out at the house to ride some of our young bulls.  Logun was one of them and he got on Logun’s Legacy that afternoon.  It was the last bull that he got on before he lost his life in the accident.”

Logun was the son of professional bull rider Buddy Gulden whose career included competing in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Bull Riders Only and Professional Bull Riders Tours and a trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.  Buddy was a talented and successful bull rider who helped and encouraged his son to carry on the family tradition.

“He was showing off his motorcycle and I told him to be careful,” Rosser contined with sadness in her voice.  “He was headed home to cook Father’s Day dinner for his dad when a car pulled out in front of him and he died.  It was so sad.  He was such a nice young man.  So, I decided to name that bull for Logun.”

Rosser’s 6308 Logun’s Legacy carries the name of bull rider Logun Gulden and the genetics of breeder Mikel Moreno.

Mikel Moreno, who succumbed to leukemia in 2006 at the age of 18, was a gifted breeder who had a passion for putting together genetics to create the great bull.

“Mikel brought innovation to our program.  He had a good eye.  He watched and looked at breeding,” explained Rosser.  “We had Whitewater, a son of Oscar’s Velvet that has produced world champion sons.  We were happy with what we were doing.  But Mikel was determined to outcross.  Mikel loved Sammy Andrew’s Skat Kat and he was set on getting Skat Kat into our program.  Thanks to Barney Brahmer he was able to do just that.  And that was the deal that led to the creation of Mikel’s Kat who is the sire to Logun’s Legacy.”

The 6308 bull is out of a daughter of Hawaiian Ivory, a bull brought over from Hawaii from the renowned Rocker G bucking bull program developed by Hawaiian native, Bud Gibson.  Gibson created a pure Brahman herd of “correctly” athletic animals known as “The Hawaiians.”  Hawaiian Ivory was brought to the Rossers with a group of other bulls that were flown to California by plane.

Overall, Hawaiian Ivory had 81 outs with 22 rides.  His career average bull score was 22.216 and he had a Probullstats Power Rating of 81.29.  His career in the professional ranks spanned from 2007 through 2012.  His best year on tour was 2009 where he was out 24 times with 2 rides and an average bull score of 22.74.

Riders want to draw this strong black and white bull with the Brahman hump.  When riders make the 8 seconds, they can score big.

Stetson Wright rode Logan’s Legacy this year at Sonoma for a score of 87.50.  JC Mortesen rode him at Nephi for 89.5 and Tristen Hutchens placed first on him in the Finals of the 2022 Extreme Bulls Nephi with a score of 90.  The previous year, in 2021, Ruger Piva won Extreme Bulls Nephi riding Logun’s Legacy to an identical score of 90.

“He’s a showy bull that gets some air,” Rosser said of the bull that has taken some big name riders to the pay window.  “They have gotten some big scores on him.  I’m sure that’s why he got chosen to go to the NFR this year.”
