BC Cattle’s bull 801 Frosty has won the title of SEBRA (Southeast Bull Riding Association) Bull of the Year. It’s an award that has special meaning for BC Cattle owners Alexa and Brandon Chambers.
801 Frosty is a five-year-old that was bred, born, raised and hauled by BC Cattle, a small grass-roots program that has 12 cows and one breed bull. And it just so happens, Frosty was the first bull calf born into their program.
“Brandon and I raised Frosty,” Alexa said proudly. “He was our first bull calf and we actually watched him calve. He is as homegrown as they come.”
BC Cattle’s breeding program started out with a single cow that Alexa bought for Brandon on his 30th birthday. Now with 12 cows and a son of Panhandle Slim as a breed bull, the Chambers are working to produce more award-winning bulls from their breeding program.
Frosty was hauled as a dummy bull and then as a rider bull. He wasn’t a stand-out early on but he was consistent. This year, at the age of 5, he developed his power and athleticism.
“This bull has an all business personality and is always there to do his job,” said Alexa of the bull she’s worked with since he was a baby. “I can always count on him to buck no matter the ground. He has been a solid long round bull. But this year, his five-year-old year, he has grown into a mature bull.”
As a dummy bull, 801 Frosty tried hard but wasn’t outstanding. With maturity, he gained the power, strength and athleticism that brought him to the top level of performance.
“He’s really gotten stronger in his kick and can pop the rope right out of a rider’s hand. But, if they ride him he takes them to the pay window,” she continued. “With his maturity, his bull scores have really improved.”
BC Cattle was founded by a skate boarder turned bull rider and a barrel racer who has become a top stock contractor on the East Coast. Read their story here: https://westernlivingjournal.com/bc-cattle-never-imagined-dream-for-skateboarder-and-barrel-racer/
The Chambers have around 7 rider bulls that they haul to events around the Eastern United States. With Brandon being a professional bull rider, that frequently leaves Alexa with attending to the stock contractor duties as a solo act. It’s been especially rewarding for her to be such a big part of 801 Frosty’s success.
“Watching him as a young bull, I never expected Frosty to turn out to be so good. But he has turned out to be an amazing athlete,” said Alexa with pride. “We are so blessed to own the 2023 SEBRA Bucking Bull of the Year.
